For those of you who would like to extend Roger’s end of season meet

At Devizes Camping and Caravanning Club Site,

Spout Lane, Nr Seend, Melksham, Wiltshire SN12 6RN

Following Roger Pepper's email about the rally in Dorset on the weekend of Thursday 9 to Monday 13 November 2017, I have organised a pre-meet.  Please note that you will need to book yourself into the site.  This makes the organisation easier when we are using a Club site.  Hardstanding pitches with electricity are available.  There should be plenty of space in November and the site has 100 pitches.  I suggest, however, that you book as soon as possible to avoid disappointment.  A deposit is payable when you book.

Depending on the weather, we will be able to do various activities, including walking and/or cycling into Devizes.  The Three Magpies Pub is very close to the site and will provide a convenient location for us to get-together http://www.threemagpies.co.uk/home

A lovely campsite located on a canal with a number of attractions nearby.

The Devizes Club campsite is a quiet and secluded retreat by the side of the Avon and Kennet Canal in the heart of Wiltshire. The surrounding countryside, ideal for walkers and cyclists, is where you’ll find some of the UK’s most significant prehistoric sites including the iconic Stonehenge and Avebury Stone circle.

This well-kept, tree-lined campsite provides 90 pitches, some lined by hedging to give a more private feel. In addition to the amenity blocks, campers can expect a children’s play area and playing field and a large dog field.

You can walk or cycle the four miles into Devizes from the campsite via the spectacular Caen Hill flight of 29 locks or catch a bus from the stop, a five minute walk from site. Buses also operate to Melksham, Bath and Bristol from here.

Devizes is a bustling historic town.  It has weekly general and collectors' markets and a regular farmers' market. Wadworth's Brewery is here. You might see its famous shire horses make deliveries in town. Sample the ales at the visitor centre where tours of the brewery and stables can be booked. The Black Swan makes a superb place to stop for lunch. Also in the town is the Wiltshire Heritage Museum where you'll find Britain’s best Bronze Age archaeology collections. The Kennet and Avon Canal Trust Museum alongside the canal is where you’ll discover the fascinating story of this delightful waterway.

Worth Noting

Fishing available on the canal. Fees payable at reception. Rock pegs needed for hardstandings.

WiFi

100% coverage cannot be guaranteed due to rural location, weather conditions and changing flora. These can cause variable signal strength. Hotspots are available.

Eat Local

Several farmers’ markets are held locally. Padfield’s Porkies sells home-reared pork products. Poulshot Lodge Farm Shop sells its home-reared beef, local pork, lamb and poultry. Rowdey Cow Farm Cafe and Ice Cream Parlour produces home-made ice cream.
