Bridge Villa Camping and Caravan Park
Crowmarsh Gifford, Wallingford,
Oxfordshire, OX10 8HB
Bridge Villa is a picturesque, family run touring camping and caravan park in Oxfordshire, beside the River Thames within the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Located on the edge of the village of Crowmarsh Gifford amongst unspoilt river-meadows, visitors to Bridge Villa are able to take a short walk over the part-medieval bridge with its 19 stone arches to the centre of the historic market town of Wallingford.
Wallingford has a long and proud history. Once King Alfred the Great’s largest fortified new town, Wallingford was granted it’s Royal Charter in 1155 long before London and now boasts an excellent range of independent shops, restaurants and pubs as well as the regular Friday, Farmers and Local Produce markets.
Wallingford is also recognisable as the original Causton from Midsomer Murder (Inspector Barnaby). There are numerous places to explore locally from the popular series.
Bridge Villa is situated close to two National Paths; The Thames Path and The Ridgeway and in addition it is also located on the Thames Valley section of Route 5 of the National Cycle Routes, offering many different opportunities to enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside.
Short walk into Wallingford over the famous bridge with a riverside pub and many other venues for coffee/drinks/meals. Bus stop close to site entrance with a 40 min bus ride into Oxford City centre. Just up the road a few minutes walk from the site and overlooking the river is the Wallingford outdoor swimming pool.
Wallingford also has links to Agatha Christie who lived in the town (Wallingford Museum-for more details) and is buried at St. Mary’s Church in Cholsey which can be reached by a pleasant circular walk next to the Thames and back to Wallingford.
Bunk Line-Cholsey & Wallingford Heritage Railway-2.5 mile railway linking Wallingford with the main line station at Cholsey-limited running days but restored station buildings at Wallingford are certainly worth a look.
Dorchester on Thames-5 miles from Wallingford (on bus route). Medieval Monastic Abbey adjoining Parish Church-Museum and grounds within a lovely village.
